Most of us know that you should visit the dentist every six months for a cleaning and check-up, but what about the orthodontist? When and how often are you supposed to visit a braces specialist?
The First Orthodontic Visit
Your child’s first visit to East Cobb Orthodontics in Marietta, GA should be around the age of seven. While your little one won’t have all of their permanent teeth in yet, we use this time to check to see if their jaws are growing properly. If needed, we can do provide intervention with braces to correct any abnormalities while your child’s mouth is still growing.
The Second Orthodontic Visit
Most children won’t need us to step in too early; instead, they’ll return for a second check-up once all of their permanent have come in (around the age of 13.) At this point, they will likely be ready to get their braces put on.
While Wearing Braces
Patients wearing traditional braces can expect to see their orthodontist every four to eight weeks. A typical orthodontic treatment can last between 18 and 36 months.
Once Your Treatment Is Over
When braces come off, your child will receive a retainer to prevent their teeth from shifting back where they came from. At this point, you won’t need to return to an orthodontist unless the retainer needs to be replaced or repaired.
